Wednesday, October 15, 2008 is Blog Action Day to raise awareness about poverty. So, let's join in!
Please comment on poverty. What is poverty? Who suffers from poverty? Who might at some point suffer from poverty? How can we help? How can you help? How is the world helping?
Please think, and comment.

"Everyday Use" by Alice Walker

We just finished reading "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker. We discussed and listed characteristics of the 3 females in the story, the Mother, Maggie, and Dee. We got a pretty good idea of what these 3 women were like. I want you to tell me more!

Idea 1: Write a paragraph telling me which character you are most like, and why.

Idea 2: Tell me which character you would like to spend the day with and what you would do. What would your day be like with that character?

Idea 3: Change the mother's decision of giving the quilts to Maggie and write a new ending to the story.

Welcome to a New School Year!

Welcome to English 10! Congratulations on passing English 9!
I'm very excited about this school year. I have lots of things planned for you guys to get you excited about English class, or at least not hating English!
We have several short story units including a Family/Heritage Unit, Prisoners of Circumstance Unit and Fantasy/Science Fiction Unit.
We will definitely be reading the novel, The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. I've had students in the past who hated reading, and they said how much they liked this novel.
I plan to include some new technologies, using the Promethean Board, new computer Web 2.0 tools, and maybe even collaborating with some other classrooms online.
It should be a great year!
Remember- You can always come and ask me for help or anything else!
